wow, lots of questions.
gas or diesel? what do you plan on getting? a motorhome or a truck? personally for me if i got a motorhome i would go gas as lots of the time it will sit while you drive your toad. so if you don't put on a ton of miles then for gas. if you are buying a truck to tow with and then i would go diesel. you will be driving this all the time whether towing or just going grocery shopping or whatever. lots of miles.
new or used? hard to answer that one. limited budget would opt for a really good used but can you find what you want in used?
extened warranty? all i know is that in trailer life and other publications you often read many, many, many complaints about extended warranties so be careful.
good luck and have a great time on the road.
ps if not already consider joining escapees club as there is a ton of experience and answers there

I guess I should have said we are leaning toward a class A.
As for towing.....really don't want to tow a trailer. Did that many years ago.You are right about mmotorhome being left after parking but economy was something I'm trying to accomplish. We will be driving more than just a weekend. I plan on joining escappees soon. Have been to the site and think it fits. Thanks for your tip nuttyfabes.

Before we started fulltiming, we had the same questions. We had a 8 year old fiver that we bought new in 98 and had never towed it, only kept it at our local campground and used it on weekends. When we faced the question of what kind of truck to buy, we went with diesel, as we didn't want marginal power and didn't want to worry about engine or tranny damage on long hard pulls. Another factor in deciding diesel or gas is: how does the price of diesel in your area compare with regular gas? We found out that on the west coast diesel is always more expensive, sometimes by as much as 20 cents per gallon. But on the east coast we have found diesel to be less expensive by about the same amount....go figure. As for all your other questions, I could give you opinions, but they're just like belly buttons....everybody's got one. I suggest you tie into the following forums and read all you can on your questions, as they are answered and discussed ad infinitum there. You said you have tried Escapees.com. Good answers there. Try RV.net, IRV2.com, Good Sam, Myrvspace.com and any others you can find by typing "RV Fulltime" into your search engine. Happy trails......
