"URGENT"!!!! I purchased a 21 year old 27 foot travel trailer from a *private owner and discovered that he *winterized it with *CAR antifreeze, which we all know is TOXIC, instead of *RV antifreeze.: "DAH"!!!! The water is now running *clear but being a nurse I'm terrified that some residue may still be present. Thankfully, we *only drink bottled water but we did brush our teeth plus we washed ourselves and dishes with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I desperately need a manual for my 27 foot *1986 SCOTTY TRAVEL TRAILER manufactured by SERRO who went out of business about *1990. ("YES, the same one that was winterized with *CAR antifreeze"!!!!) A speedy reply about the *CAR antifreeze dilemma would be greatly appreciated. "THANK YOU"!!!! NANAXO.

Hi nanaxo, I just signed up to day and dropped in the forum to look around and I saw your post. I would say the first thing you should do, is do a complete flushing of the water system using bleach and I would do it at least two to three times. I would use a strong mix of at least 50% bleach and water. If you are only going to use the tank water for bathing and clean up I wouldn't worry to much after doing the bleach flush but you could install under sink filters that would help to solve the problem also. I hope this helps, Gummy at rv-mobile-vision-quest.com

You can flush with bleach then if you go to a local dealer they can sell you chemical tank flush... after doing that i would then fill your tank and take a sample to your local health agency and have the water tested before you use it...a pure water attachment to your tap will help after as well and you can buy them at most hardware stores.

Good luck

Be VERY VERY careful!!!! You will want to flush more than several times.

The situation you have is extremely dangerous and could cause severe health problems!!!!!

Take the advice given and check with your local hardware dealer to make sure that the flush you are using is what will get rid of the poison!!!!!

By all means have the water tested after you think your system is clean!!!!!!
