We are learning! Filled with potable water at a wonderful city park and added the clorox per the way we usually do. What a surprise we got when we later turned on the faucet and got brown water. The next a.m. I went to city hall to find out about it. Apparently it was because we added the clorox. The ladies can't add clorox to their laundry there. Our filter on the kitchen faucet is working well but we can't wait to get to where we can dump the water, rinse tanks and water heater real well and start over. We will purchase a filter to put on the hose before filling from now on. Anyone else had this happen?

Did they say why/how your clorox/chlorine makes the water turn brown?? I've never heard of such a thing, and frankly, doubt you got the whole truth. Cities normally have to add chlorine to the water in their treatment plant to make it safe/legal for public consumption. If your clorox turns the water brown, why doesn't the chlorine they add make it brown? I do agree you need to flush the system well, perhaps even sanitize the system.
I never hook up to a water source without first turning on the water and watching it run to see that it is clear. We never add chlorine to our water unless we are sanitizing the system. We use a sediment filter only on the water hose, and have a carbon filter under the sink for drinking & ice maker water. Yes, we do drink the water from our fresh water tank just like the drink the water in a stick house ...if it looks or smells bad in either place, we don't drink it.

They didn't say why but the water did run clear before the hyperchlorination was done. Strange!
