While watching the water heater try to start, the flame backs up & had I not been there watching, the visually undetctable flame smoked the outher wire casing ( if it hadent b een for the tiny puff of smoke, I would never have known).... well, it would have completely burnt the wiring up..... hmmmmm or worse.
What Now?
Why is the (very low pressure ... no umphhh to it at all) flame backing up?

Had the same problem... spiders or some other insect, have built a web in the tube between the venturi and the burner. Remove the tube, clean it and problem goes away:)

Thanks, I've got the perfect thing to clean it out with.... an aquarium bottle brush looking tool for cleaning filter & water lines!
I'll let ya know if there were any critters camping in there;)

Ok, I cleaned up everything & replaced a couple of blade connectors.
Very happy to say it started right up & I adjusted the air shutter just to the point as not to include any yellow flame. (hope that is correct)
On the other hand, the water has reached it's 140 deg internal preset temp which is not adjustable, but as of yet, the flame is still goin strong & has not shut off....

Ok..... Flame shut off right after I posted.... yayyyyyy
Then I ran hot water untill it kicked back in... yippi i o ki a Yayyyyy

Any Suggestions of improvement to be made on the air shutter adjustment I made will be greatly appreciated?

Hi, Your water heater should have a nice roar to it, but not real loud if you close the door and back away 6 to 8 feet. That should do it.

Thanks rvdoc,
I cranked it up a lil more than I had it & stood back a bit.
I can hear it, but it's not loud.;)
