I am looking to purchase a generator for use with our Jayco Eagle TT. Our group members have either a Honda (EU2000i) or a Yamaha 'RV ready' (EF3000iSEB).

I've looked online at the Kipor but this seems to be somewhat of a odd ball from what others have written.

So, any advise / experience with brands and cost would be great!

Most of them are just a bunch of trouble and because they are not exactly the right cycles they will destroy your electronics, TV, computer microwave. Stay with the name brands even if its used. Yea they are more expensive But They are a solid product.

I will say the statement to stay away from the off brands is true in most cases if you do not have anything to go by as far as experience. I own and have always used the Kipor and I have also recently permanently mounted mine in our 5th Wheel it works great and does everything that we need it to do. GOOD RULE OF THUMB: do not buy a brand that you do not know unless someone you know has already done it.

I own the Yamaha EF3000iSEB and I highly recommend it. Just spent the long President's day weekend in Death Valley and it worked great. I also had many of my fellow campers stopping by to talk with me about how quiet it was. I don't know what your price range is but it is worth the money. You can also order it online at a slightly lower price in some cases and several places offer free shipping. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Going on March 28 for a few days. Any suggestions? Staying at Furnace Creek.

I had some issues witha Kipor Diesel Generator back in 2005, found out from the US Distributor that they don't have a service network in place for Warranty repairs. You take the unit to any generator repair shop and Kipor pays them a flat labor rate plus cost for parts, took awhile to get it fixed. The shop that undertook the initial repair had a subpar repairman working on it. I advise caution in buying these, since the warranty support is weak and factory training is non-existent.
In case you'r wondering, I'm a trained and certified Diesel generator technician and have worked in the industry for 15 years, the last year as the service manager at Tradewinds Power Corp., a generator manufacturer.
Happy trails,

We bought the Yamaha 3000 and used it with our 38 ft fiver. We traded the fiver in on a 42ft motorhome and will continue to use the Yamaha because it is so quiet and runs so long on a tank of fuel. We love this little thing. If we had to do it over again we would get the remote start with the same unit.

There are a lot of great things to see while you are there. Right across the street from from the Furnace Creek campground is a visitors center. I suggest you start there. They have a continuously looping powerpoint presentation of all of the interesting things to do in the area. After that, make sure to see Scotty's castle. It is about 50 miles north of Furnace Creek but well worth the trip. Other things of interest:

Bad Water - lowest point in the United States

Dante's View

Artist's Pallete - Lots of very colorful rock formations due to the various minerals in the area.

Have a great time, we did!

I have a Honda EU2000i that I got as a home back up for hurricane season. It's a great little generator, but it will not run an RV air conditioner. For that you'd need at least the 3000. Other than that, I've never had any problems with mine.

As far as a generator goes my advise would be to buy the largest you can afford. You can never have to much generator. Honda, and Yamaha both make 5000, and 7000 units. If you have a couple of A/C units and a TV and other electric goodies you will need the extra juice. I always double what I think I need and press on.

We have 2 Honda 2000 that we link together when we want to run everything otherwise run just one of them.We have used them for 4 yrs. They are easy to handle and have had no problems and they don't use much fuel

I bought a Yamaha EF2800i a couple of years ago. I have been VERY pleased with it. It will run my AC ALL NIGHT in 100 degree temps (been there, done that) :) on a single tank of gas. It's also very quite. I bought it online form a company in Denver for $1185 with free shipping. I built a metal box (with BIG LOCK) and mounted it on the the back bumper/hitch of my travel trailer and it works perfectly. I reinforced the bumper & hitch with support welded to the frame. The generator weighs 67 lbs dry.

My experience has been fantastic. As a woman, I can pull it around on the wheels with little strain, move it from place to place. The other thing is it is so quiet. I have seen several people very happy with them. Ive seen the 3000 pull a 27 ft trailer with no problem. Onan is still the very best in my book, but I am impressed with Kipor.
