I find when I'm traveling it is real easy to get careless about what I eat. I now make sure I have plenty of fresh fruits, juices, and Cheese snacks available. If it is there I'll eat it.

I also like to do stretches, go for brisk walks in the mornings before it gets too hot.

What other ideas are out there for staying healthy while traveling.

I found that if I cook ahead and put meals in the freezer it helps with control over the food intake. Fortunately we have a large freezer in our refrig. I also buy a lot of fruit and veg's along the way. A roasted chicken, take off the skin, and enjoy for more than one meal. I have even bought these ahead and have frozen them as well. We like to do meatless meals for a change and tomato/cottage cheese and salad lunch works and at times we do pinto beans and small pieces of cornbread. I like the Bocca flame grilled veggie burgers too.
For exercise I also do early a.m. walks, stretches and use the therabands and light weights, 2 lbs. I have arthritis and take an assortment of pillows for proper sleep positions and for the co-pilot seat. Climbing in and out of the motorhome gives my legs an extra work-out too.
I also welcome any other helpful hints.

When will this site start having the healthing RV'ing advice and when will the forum begin?

Gussie,

The forum is still in the works. As far as healthy RVing advice - I have posted three articles pertaining to general health information* that I thought were important for RVers to know. However, if there are specific things that members would like me to discuss I would be more than happy to do so.

*Health Inventory
*Are you covered while travelling?
*What is wrong with my eyes?

Look for articles on:

1. Preventing the spread of diseases.
2. First aid kit.
3. Symptoms of illness and where you should go for treatment.

In health and wellness!

Dr.,
I admit I am not the greatest at the computer but I can't find the articles you posted. I didn't find them on this forum. Are they posted elsewhere?

Thanks. The site was so obvious that I missed it!! Read all the articles today and enjoyed them. Am looking forward to the next. I am also happy to say that I "scored pretty high" on already doing what the articles suggested.

Gussie,

Glad you found the articles! You will find a new one there the beginning of every month. I will also post to threads, informally. So, if you have any questions please post here.

In addition, share the link with your friends and family. I am glad to hear you are already doing many of the healthy things I suggest. But not everyone is so health savvy!

Having been a competitive bodybuilder, power lifter and arm wrestler for over 30 years I'm well acquainted with extremely vigorous exercise and highly disciplined dieting. Now that I've somehow reached 57 years of age, despite my most concerted efforts to destroy my body with excesses, I'm slowing up a bit. Nevertheless, I still endeavor to exercise at least 4 to 5 times a week while at home and always pack a set of adjustable 50 pound dumbbells, an ab roller, cable stretcher, and a collapsible incline sit up bench on the motor home when on the road. I also bicycle and hike with every opportunity. I'm thinking of purchasing a compact Soloflex unit for use on the road. Fitness is never more essential than when healthy aging is desired. So get rolling and get PUMPED!!

I served this to company and they loved it.

1 can crushed pineapple in own juice
I pkg. vanilla instant fat free, sugar free jello pudding mix
Mix these two ingredients and then fold in 1 cup of fat free cool whip.

Serve between slices of angel food cake or tear up the angel food cake and lightly mix with the pudding mix.

Hi all!

I'm new to this forum, but not to RV'ing. My husband and I spent a year full-timing and our goal is to get back to doing just that as soon as we sell our house.

I've exercised nearly every day for 25 years. On the road, I bought a mini-trampoline (it fit in the kitchen of our rig) and jumped/ran/etc on it while the TV was on. (I hate exercising and the only way I find it palatable is to do it in front of some mindless show.) Sometimes for variety, though, I'd take a mat and jump rope and do that outside. Warning: If you do the latter, nearly everyone in the campground who passes by will say, "Hey! Do a few for me!" It was funny - the first time.

Hi Sue,

I agree with you that trying to eat well and exercising whiling RVing is important. But there are many preventive measures that we RV'ers tend to overlook. I invite you to visit my monthly blog at:

The fruits and vegetable of course are a great idea, but don't forget the nuts. Almonds, walnuts, and others have such great benefits in them.:)

Hi, I know a staple item when we go camping is chips and dip. But I find now we can bring veggies and low fat dip or hummus as a healthier snack. I don't always bring soda anymore, now just water and iced tea. I love this forum, we need more topics on health.

We are fulltimers and we try hard to eat right. Always lots of fruit, veggies and ezekial bread. I shop at local food co-op's cost is a little more, but their Hummus is the greatest and it keeps for awhile. I cook and eat leftovers in 2-3 meals. I believe in the holistic foods, prevention rather then a cure. I am going to love this site. I was raised a vegetarian and go off and on over my life and I can say cutting back on red meat and meat by-products allow me to feel better.

We do eat a lot of pickeled herring with sides of bread, crackers, cheese, fruit and yogurt. I mix the fruit with yogurt for a dessert type treat. Hot tea with dehydrated cane sugar, we no longer used refined anymore. I want to hear what others are doing and pass on good meals. Lois

Eat live food! It is really not hard, just have plenty of fruits and vegetables available top that off with a health piece of meat and your all set. Nuts are great snacks, just watch the peanuts and cashews they are pretty fattening. If you need some chocolate, go for a small piece of dark.
