Hello All

We have just purchased a 2000 Monaco Diplomat and are researching an extended warranty. Any input on which ones are best? Which ones to stay away from?

We have quotes from both RVProtection.net out of Washington State as well as the CSP program from Good Sam Club.

Also, any input on who provides the best motorhome insurance coverage at the best rates?

Thanks

We recently purchased a used class a and had a travel trailer. When they asked me if i wanted and extended warranty, i asked with whom. They gave me Warranty Co of Florida. I was very happy with the price and service with this company. But when i got home i found out they charged me $3,900 for a 2 year contract. Will i called Good Sam they quoted me a fee of $800. per year with no limit on the number of years. That is $1,600 versus $3,900. Good Sam is an insurance not a warranty. They dont take care of everything.
For example, if you motor goes, they will repair or replace and it pays for motor and labor, but not the hoses, belts and smaller items that you will have to pay. So its pay me now or pay me later. Insurance is a gamble.

My Extended warranty, purchased when the coach was new, recently expired because of mileage.

I searched all over and compared warranties and insurance policies and purchased a Good Sam CSP in July.

In August our basement air went and the repair bill was 42,800. They covered there portion less my deductible without a problem.

Was it worth the $865 cost? You bet-do not leave home without it.

A refrigerator can cost $3,000.

ENJOY!!

Stay away from National Warranty. They do not pay. Had a 2000 repair bill for Master Brake cyl failure, Air Bag Failure and Overheating problems. They offered $ 85.00.

Total cost for a three year policy was $ 3400.00. Apparently they are trying to achieve a 100% profit level.

They all seem to work if the bill totals $500 or less --before the deductable.

If you choose to get one...(I did as well) remember to get an "exclusionary policy" and also that they are negotiable as to price...I negotiated mine from $5900 for 7 years to $1400 for 7 years...Had a couple of three things that I had to pay a $50 deductible, and the part they paid has covered $1350 of the $1400 and still have 5 years left...Don't recall the name and can't look for it right now as my MH is in AZ, and we are home for the holidays...

Hey GEOTHOM what is the nature of your beef with Good Sam's CSP. I just bought a 2000 American Eagle and continued the CSP coverage. The previous owner was very happy with CSP.

I heard an unusual noise & took the mh to my mechanic, after a test dive he said the noise was comming from the differential & was probably the pinion bearing. I called CSP & was given an evidence number & directed to take the mh in for repairs.
I went to a ford dealer who has facilities to work on rv's, (my regular mechanic does not have room).
CSP sent an investigator out & after speaking with the investigator the claim was denied, by phone to the ford dealer, (not to me), due to rust on the ring gear.
I called CSP & was advised I would have to pay for the repairs, save the parts & request a review, which I did.
I asked for a denial letter & was told this is not normally done. After almost 40 years of claims adjusting I have NEVER seen a claim denied that was not denied in writing.
No less than 5 mechanics & an article in motorhome magazine said to look to the pinion bearing.
Upon looking at the old parts the mechanics agreed that the pinion bearing was the problem.
I sent pictures of the pinion bearing, a statement from my mechanic & a copy of the motorhome magazine article & requested a review which was done.
I then received a check for $500.00 on a $3,200.00 bill, (I have a $500.00 deductable), but no letter of explanation This is claims handling at its worst.
Like fixit says above they all seem to work if the bill is less than $500.00

I guess we have to remember that these "warranties" are actually insurance plans and typically insurance companies will deny an initial claim. What is your recourse from here, there must be something that you can do.

Small claims court i think. Attorneys don't see enough money in the case, despite the bad faith exposure.

Take a look at Freedom Roads. It is offered by Camping World associated RV dealers. I had to take our unit in today for two problems; the steps and the inverter. I was present when a camping world rep. called Freedom Roads. After answering a few questions, the repairs were approved. Good luck...

When we bought our Damon Challenger two years ago, I bought a 5 year warranty at our dealership (Lazy Days-Tampa) and our work so far has been done there. I pay a $200 deductible and have had NO problems with payment for numerous expensive parts.....I think getting the warranty from the dealer is best...as long as they have the facilities to do the work!

Good luck!

I think all insurance is just like a hospital gown, you just think you are covered

I was looking for a policy and got a quote from Good Sam. It was higher than some and I finally went with a company through Passport America. I saved about $300 over the 4 years of the policy. Got a $100 ded not $250 as Good Sam was offering. I have not had to make a claim, but the interesting thing is I called Good Sam and ask if they would match the rate. They said No. Now about a month later, I get a letter from Good Sam offering me a $100 ded policy at the same price I paid through Passport America. I guess they do change prices if you don't bite the first time. I called them and said I would have bought from them if they had offered that price the first time! They just said sorry.

I really dont feel qualified to answer your question because I too have just purchased a used 2000 RV (American Eagle) but I would tell you this: the previous owner had and I continued with the CSP plan from Good Sam. He said they had always been responsive and fair although he really hadn't needed to use it much. It seems a little pricy to me ($1367 per year) but I decided to continue coverage for at least one year while I look around. I have been warned by others to stick to known names like Good Sam etc. Please let me know what you find in your research as well.
