Anybody been to the Outdoor Resorts in Gatlinburg? We will be traveling from Memphis any suggestions on the best roads to take that aren't going to scare me to death.
And how is the resort itself, is it worth the trip?:o

I cant help you myself on the resort you are talking about but I have a suggestion. Send a message to Stacyb. She is a member from Tennessee and knows alot about the Gatlinburg area. She helped me out on a campground in that area. She must not have seen your post or probably would have replied by now. I dont have my map book handy but I think from Memphis you need to take I 40 west and it will take you to the Gatlinburg exits. There are some short cut routes that others might know depending on where you are going in that area. Good luck and have a great time.

Are you staying in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge (have to go thru PF on way to Gatlinburg if you go via I-40)?
Pigeon Forge has a number of good RV parks ... Claboughs, Creekside, Waldens Creek ... my choice is Claboughs. The rv parks mentioned are serviced by the local "Tooterville Trolley". For $0.50 a trip, the trolleys will take you just about anywhere in PF (shopping outlets, Dollywood, restuarants, etc) and even on to Gatlinburg. The good thing with the trolley is, you don't have to fight the traffic or find/pay for parking (Dollywood).

here...
Outdoor resort is a big rv campground only.. no popups allowed. I have heard it is nice though. I stay at claboughs alot and love it. River plantation is also very popular also.
Just going through pigeon forge and gatlinburg stay on 321 and it is a straight shot once you turn off the main drag going into gatlinburg. It is on the quiet end.
you can avoid traffic by going Taking I40 to ashville then taking exit 441 i believe and going on 321 that route. you go through cosby and it is very quiet and no traffic.
Any more question just ask

We will be in PF from September 24 to the 30th on our way to Florida. We always stay at Kings Holly Haven and like that park.
For this time of year and in the spring when it can be cool it is failrly open and you get the benefit of the sun.
Wherever you stay this is a great part of our country not to be missed. This will be our 15th trip there and we, of course, will spend one day at Dollywood-great crafts and shows!!!
Enjoy!!!

We have stayed at Outdoor Resorts Gatlinburg many times. It is one of our favoite campgrounds. Sites on the lake and stream are especially beautiful. ORA is located 11 miles out hwy 321 toward Cosby. My opinion is that it is the best campground in the area, but if you plan to spend most of your time in town you will spend a lot of time driving. I have seen many popups in ORA over the years, so I don't think they are restriced, tents are not allowed. They have a good web site and a friendly staff.
We are going to the area in Oct. but we are staying at River Plantation this trip because we plan to spend more time in town.
I highly recomend ORA.

if you are going to Gatlinburg for the comercial side shopping, outlet mall etc. the by all means stay in gatlinburg but if you are after the peace and quiet that camping and the Great Smokie Mountains has to offer then Townsend is the place to go you'll be about 30 minutes to Gatlinburg and 9 miles to cades cove and hiking galore complete with waterfalls, wildlife, history etc. and it right on US 321 take exit 81 off of I-75 Townsend has a lot of nice campgrounds you can also rent tube to tube the local streams. I hope you have a nice trip. Oh by the way my favorite camp ground is Lazy Daze.:)
