Hi RV folks.
I am new to this site and hope to become a RV owner in the near future.
My Wife and I are English living in Turkey. We spend about 5 months per year sailing.
What we hope to do is spend a few months each year touring the USA with a RV. We are thinking of something between 23-29ft type C.
We have reseached a little and are thinking of buying a ex Rental RV {money is tight} We would like to hear from anyone who as done this. It would also be useful to get some idea of cost such MPG, site fees, maintainence, insurance etc. We hope to visit areas like National and State Parks, Alaska and Canada. We like countryside not the cities.
Anyone visiting Turkey who needs help or advice can contact me at selwyn@superonline.com

Hi and welcome! There are lots of sites available to help you find campsites. My preferred is rvparkreviews.com but I would checkout more than one site as they tend to list different campgrounds for the same area. The fees for camp sites vary depending on where, time of year and ammenities. Most national Parks do not have full hook ups but the plus side is they arent very expensive. You can also look for BLM (Bureau of Land Management) for low to no cost camping. You can even lookup "fee campgrounds" and find quite a few.

The parks/resorts that do offer hook ups allow you to choose from just water and electricity to that plus sewer and cable or wifi. Some places can be pretty pricey.

There is a website called crankyape.com, there are lots of repos there. Recently on the news they said that they have received a lot of motorhomes so you might be able to get a good deal there. As for insurance, you may be able to add on to your auto insurance or send for free quotes from a variety of insurance companies. mileage will depend on your vehicle, weight, speed etc. There is a site called RVtech library that has a lot of info. I also frequent the RV.NET forums for information. So much information out there. We are planing trips to the national parks and sent away for their brochures or go to the state travel site and ask them to send you some info. Maps, brochures, etc. We have Triple A and they provided us with free maps and campground books.

Traveling to Alaska or Canada isnt something I have done yet, though plan to do next year. There is a section on RV.net that is just about canada and alaska so they would be able to provide more information. There are of course different rules for canada and alaska can be a tricky place to visit so be sure to read up on those areas.

Good luck and happy trails--
