I'm a new member to the forum and relatively new to RVing. I just purchased a new 2007 Safari Cheetah 38PDQ and I have a question about fueling.
The coach has two fillers, one on each side. When I tried to fuel up after our first trip, I used the roadside filler. It would only take 20 gallons which put me a lttle over 1/2 full according to the guage. I could see the fuel level in the tank and it was full, but when I looked in the curbside filler, I could see none. Does anyone know if you have to use both sides to fill the tank?? I called the dealer and no one there knew!
Thanks,
Dave

If so then you have a gauge problem. but when I looked in the curbside filler, I could see none. Does anyone know if you have to use both sides to fill the tank?? Normally, the curb side filler is used for convenience of filling at truck stops, both fillers connect to the tank. I called the dealer and no one there knew! Good luck with getting service if the dealer that sold you the Safari couldn't answer this question. Makes you really wonder about the quality of there service dept.
Thanks, Dave
Now I'm going to offer some general information about diesel, if you fill diesel at a high flow rate it will foam and cause pump to shut off, (the same effect that you get when pouring a Beer or a Soda into a glass) it will appear to be full, but as soon as the foam disipates, its not.
When refueling at truck stops that have the Satellite pump on the passenger side as well, you can fill from both sides at once and allow the fuel to flow at a slower rate and not have the foaming problem, allows you to get in and out faster. It's a convenience when refueling, not a requirement.

Thanks for the speedy reply.
There didn't appear to be any foaming that I could see. The nozzle clicked off twice and when I looked inside the filler (only about 8" long), I could see the fuel level right at the level of the filler tube. It shows a little over 1/2 a tank on the gauge. When I looked into the other filler tube, I can't see any fuel like I can in the other side.
I called the Monaco tech support line this morning and was told that they don't answer this type of question on the weekend, only emergency problems and they would get back to me by phone Monday! How's that for service? LOL

Is it possible that your RV was leaning a little? Most pump areas are not level, and could cause you to see fuel on one side and not the other?
I know that most of the time, one nozzle shuts off before the other when I am filling from both sides.

I think your best bet is to speak with Monaco

Could it be that you have two seperate fuel tanks? Some pick up trucks do. If so, you will have a control, somewhere, to switch between them.

I was sitting on perfectly level ground when trying to fill it. There is no indication anywhere of there being two separate tanks and no controls to switch if there are. I've also had a one ton pickup with switchable tanks.
This situation really makes no sense to me and I guess I'll just have to wait to hear from Monaco today. It has my salesman baffeled, as he's never had this question arise before and has always told customers that they can fill from either side.

I had a 2005 Itasca Horizon that would fill tank only on one side. The filler on the bad side would fill up long before tank was full. Had it at dealer and Freightliner numerous times. Finally took it to Winnebago factory. They changed the filler tube and the connector to the tank, as well as the air vents. One of these, or a combination, fixed the problem. Your problem sounds similar. Have them check the air vents and make sure there are no kinks in the filler tube.
I just traded for a new American coach. Seems the Horizon was in for repair more than it was available for traveling.

Thank you. I talked to Monaco about this problem and the rep suspects that it may be a vent tube problrm. The filler tubes can't be the problem because they are approx. 2" in diameter and only about 8" long. They are metal pipe and I can see directly into the tank.
It goes back in to fix a bunch of little items soon and the dealer is going to check it out.
I'll have to say that I'm a little dissapointed in the quality control in this new coach. I traded up from a Fleetwood Southwind 32V that I bought last October. I had far fewer issues to deal with on the Southwind. Fortunately, my dealer goes out of his way to see that things a fixed and made right.
